Abstract
In this work, sequential and iterative distributed economic model predictive control (DEMPC) designs with constraints on a state-based safety metric (Safeness Index) are demonstrated for an ethylene oxidation process. The results indicate that distributing the calculations of a Lyapunov-based economic model predictive control (LEMPC) design with Safeness Index-based constraints may improve computation time compared to utilizing a centralized design while maintaining the state in a safe operating region and improving economic performance compared to steady-state operation.
