Abstract

Distraction osteogenesis has recently been used in cases of vertical resorption of edentulous jaws to improve bone volume for dental implant placement.1,2 Preliminary results have shown a very good quality of the neogenerated bone, with adequate characteristics for implant osseointegration.3,4 To the authors' knowledge, this method has not been applied to vertically elongate revascularized fibula flaps used for reconstruction of mandibular continuity defects after tumor resection to improve the functional and aesthetic results of implant-supported prostheses.
