Distorted wave impulse approximation calculation of pd → tπ

Abstract

We outline the derivation of an improved impulse approximation calculation of (p, π) reactions on nuclei. Distortion effect are included and, unlike previous calculations, crude approximations for the wave functions are not needed. The formalism is applied to pd → tπ and a significant improvement in fits to the data is obtained, although the backward peak at 470 MeV still cannot be reproduced.
