Abstract

In this paper, the concept of local froth control on a distillation tray is discussed. A tray device that eliminates many of the limitations of conventional sieve trays is described. The development has been geared towards achieving a tray device that eliminates stagnant regions and operates with low pressure-drop per theoretical tray. The new tray device is capable of achieving high turndown. Initial experiments to characterize flow on this tray device are described and discussed.
