Abstract

Ukraine experienced a period of religious awakening during the perestroika years. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was one of the Christian denominations present in Ukraine and was the one that created the greatest problems in diplomatic relations between Rome and Moscow. The attitude to be maintained towards the Greek Catholic Church was the cause of a heated debate within the Catholic Church. This article, through unpublished documents, reconstructs the internal debate within the Catholic Church and, on a smaller scale, in the Diocese of Milan about ecumenism, proselytism and the new evangelization.
