Abstract
Summary form only given. The paper designs a distance based intra prediction scheme using the correlation of spatial pixels. In the H.264 standard, the vertical mode lets the predicted pixels be equal to the upper pixel in the neighbouring macroblock. However, if the current block is at the very edge of a moving object or the edge between two objects, the method that lets all pixels equal the same value does not work well. Because of the frequent use of vertical and horizontal mode, in the case above, the coding performance decreases badly. According to our distance based intra prediction method, when we employ the vertical mode, the pixels left to the current macroblock can give a good reference in the vertical direction, which we name the horizontal distance matrix. In the same way, we design a vertical distance matrix utilized in the horizontal mode. As for other modes, the distance considered method is also used. In all, we change 5 intra modes according to the distance based method. The results show that videos can be processed effectively with the new intra prediction scheme.
