Abstract

Fractures of the distal tibia that involve the physis are common in the pediatric and adolescent populations. The distal tibial physis has a predictable pattern of closure in adolescents, and this can lead to distinct fracture patterns depending on the mechanism of injury and the patient's skeletal maturity. Orthopaedic providers must be aware of these fracture pattern variations to facilitate appropriate treatment and education to patients and their families.
