Abstract
The dissolution of single crystal spheres of quartz has been investigated in NaF-K2S2O7, NaF-V2O5, NaF-K2Cr2O7, NH4HF2 and KHF2 melts. In all the systems except KHF2 the dissolution led to the formation of polyhedra. The faces of these polyhedra were determined and attempts were made to explain their occurrence in the light of a simplified molecular-kinetic model of the dissolution of a single crystal sphere.
