Abstract

We present a combined theoretical and experimental study of dissociative photoionization of H 2 in the photon energy range 36–43 eV. Clear evidence for the existence of Q 3 and Q 4 doubly excited states (DES) in H 2 is provided by analyzing the kinetic energy distribution (KED) of emitted protons. Non-resonant ionization through very excited ionization thresholds is also observed for the first time.
