Abstract

New accurate cross sections for negative ion formation from H2 and D2 through dissociative electron attachment and dipolar dissociation have been obtained. A momentum imaging spectrometer was used to measure these cross sections without contribution from UV and hot neutrals, which have plagued the previous measurements. Isotope effect is observed for the first time in dipolar dissociation by electron impact.
