Abstract

The relationships between the dissociation constants of weak electrolytes and the temperature and pressure were studied. Values of the constants as determined experimentally are compared with the computed values obtained by extrapolation into the high-temperature region. On this basis an attempt is made to estimate the reliability of proposed equations expressing temperature relationship of the dissociation constants. The published experimental values of the dissociation constants of certain geochemically significant weak electrolytes — water, carbonic acid, sulfurous and sulfuric acid and hydrosulfuric acid (H2S) — are also considered. The results of calculations of the first and second dissociation constants of dissociation of hydrosulfuric and sulfurous acid are presented. -- Author.
