Abstract

Solubility products of various alkaline-earth oxides in NaCl-KCl at 1000 K have been determined potentiometrically by use of a calcia stabilized zirconia pO 2- indicator electrode. The corresponding pK s values (in molality scale) for MgO, CaO and BaO, (respectively 9.0 ± 0.15, 5.0 ± 0.3, 2.31 ± 0.05) are compared, when possible, to those previously determined by other methods. The titration method suggested in this work seems to be more accurate and undoubtedly necessary when oxychloride formation is possible as shown with magnesium.
