Abstract

Resistive behavior of Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8+ y in parallel magnetic fields has been studied by angular alignment with ≈0.02 degree precision to reveal an extremely large anisotropy in this material. An enhancement of dissipation has been unexpectedly found for field angles within ≈0.5 degrees from the ab-plane at higher transport current densities. The origin of the phenomenon is discussed in terms of flux dynamics in an extremely anisotropic superconductor.
