Abstract
Abstract Aspergillus infection can manifest in a variety of ways ranging from allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis to disseminated aspergillosis. Invasive disease is typically seen in the immunocompromised population but may rarely affect immunocompetent hosts. We present a case of a 48-year-old previously healthy man initially presenting with septic shock and multiorgan system failure. After stabilization, he developed persistent fevers with worsening mental status. Imaging of the brain revealed multiple hemorrhages with impending brain herniation. Postmortem examination revealed purulent abscesses in multiple organs with culture and microscopic evaluation revealing Aspergillus fumigatus.
