Abstract

In the context of Digital Disruption (DD), early-mover advantages are usually shortlived. Conversely, "second-movers" may avoid market uncertainties and develop more effective business models. These second-mover advantages (SMA) are underpinned by Information Systems (IS), but their precise roles in facilitating SMA have not received adequate research attention to date.Based on a case study of Xbed, a successful second-mover in the Chinese accommodation sharing industry, we conceptualized IS-enabled SMA as a process that consists of three stages. Moreover, our study suggests that distinct combinations of strategies and IS capabilities should be employed in each stage toward the attainment of SMA.
