Abstract

A number of important questions deserving the close attention of broad categories of the historical profession have arisen in the theory and practice of archives work. This is indicated, in particular, by various articles that have appeared in the pages of the journal Voprosy istorii. (1) But certain aspects of archives work significant to historical scholarship have not yet received attention. They include questions of archeography. Among them are matters in dispute. We shall concern ourselves with only one — the principles of selection of documents for publication with research use in mind.
