Abstract
Este artigo identifica a tensão entre hierarquia e heterarquia como um princípio estrutural que opera a favor da multiplicidade, da diferença e da autonomia no contexto dos sistemas regionais e da política-ritual ameríndia. Focando na relação entre dono/chefe de maloca e xamã, à luz das tensões nas relações entre irmãos mais novos/mais velhos, típicas da região do Alto Rio Negro, caracteriza-se a constituição de uma chefia bicéfala, onde ambos especialistas trabalham de forma complementar para atender às diferentes direções envolvidas na política, e os mecanismos que dificultam sua consolidação.
