Abstract

A precise monitoring device for the luminosity is used at the Orsay e +e − storage ring (ACO). Two lead-scintillator sandwich counters detect the photons emitted at small angles in the double Bremsstrahlung reaction e +e −→e +e − γγ. The detection thresholds of these two counters are accurately determined by a tagging method of the Bremsstrahlung photons. The ratio from the coincidence rate Ṅ between the pulses of the two sandwich counters to the double Bremsstrahlung cross-section σ gives the luminosity L: L = N ̇ /σ . The whole uncertainty on L is quite small : ΔL/ L = ±1.5% (statistital) ±2.5% (systematic).
