Abstract
2014 The details of desing and setting up of an apparatus which allows the preparation of conducting or insulating micrographic samples by uniform ionic bombardement are given. The average surface area subjected to bombardement may be 0.1 Sq. In. or greater being limited only by the speed of the vacuum pump. The adaptation of this device for making thinner samples of bulk materials meant for direct examination by transmission electron microscopy is also described.
