Abstract

Abstract Cartridges filters and diatomaceous earth used in exploration and production operations are managed according to the nature of the fluids that they have been exposed to. The filtration industry has employed practices of source reduction and minimization to avoid waste generation whenever possible. The industry adheres to waste management guidelines in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations. This paper sets forth the criteria to determine if the used filter cartridges and diatomaceous earth are considered hazardous wastes under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and discusses approaches for disposal.
