Abstract

The authors have developed an inexpensive and portable biosensor for the rapid determination of levofloxacin (Levo) in water. A screen-printed electrode (SPE) coated with silver nanowires was used as a biosensor. A simple chronoamperometric (CA) method for detecting Levo in the solution with a pH of 7 was reported. Sodium hydroxide was used as an electrolyte. From the CA response over the range of concentrations of Levo (13 µM to 130 µM), at a particular applied voltage of 0.35 V, the calibration curve was obtained. The sensitivity was measured to be 0.03 µA µM−1 calculated from the linear regression analysis equation of the calibration curve. The limit of detection for the biosensor was estimated to be 0.66 µM, and the linear determination coefficient (R2) was measured to be 0.96.
