Abstract

espanolDisponibilidad lexica de los estudiantes hispanos en Redwood City, California presenta el estudio de una comunidad hispanohablante en contacto con el ingles. El objetivo central es realizar el diagnostico de la disponibilidad lexica de los estudiantes hispanos de duodecimo grado de educacion general de la ciudad de Redwood City, California. Se adhiere al Proyecto Panhispanico de Lexico Disponible del espanol dirigido por Humberto Lopez Morales. Permite analizar manifestaciones de variaciones geograficas y sociolinguistica del espanol en esta parte del mundo. Entre las aportaciones de este estudio se encuentran aspectos novedosos en la metodologia con el manejo de nuevas variables independientes y el empleo de procedimientos estadisticos. Los resultados que se derivan de la presente investigacion ofrecen el lexico disponible de la comunidad hispana de Redwood City.Posibilitan la aplicacion practica a la ensenanza de la lengua materna y de lengua extranjera. Al mismo tiempo permiten hacer comparaciones con otras sintopias ya estudiadas. EnglishThis study of a Spanish-speaking community in contact with English had as its main objective the research and catalog the lexical availability of twelfth grade Hispanic students in general education in the city of Redwood City, California. This research adheres to the Panhispanic Lexical Availability Project led by Humberto Lopez Morales. It allows an examination of aspects of geographical variations and sociolinguistics of Spanish in this part of the world. Among the contributions of this study are novel aspects in the methodology with the use of new independent variables and the use statistical procedures. The results derived from this research analyze the lexical available to the Hispanic community in Redwood City. They make possible practical applications to the teaching of mother tongue and foreign language. At the same time they allow for comparisons with other communities previously studied.
