Abstract

A theoretical analysis is given which determines the displacement current which flows when a semi-infinite, uniform coaxial cable is driven by a sinusoidal voltage generator. By integrating over an appropriate quarter wavelength the displacement current is calculated and this is shown to be equal to the peak conduction current, independent of the frequency. Thus a role is always evident for the displacement current in a coaxial geometry.
