Abstract

This work aims at the simulation of three-dimensional isothermal flow between a pair of discs in a series disc-screw (SDS) extruder by finite element method. To analyze the dispersive mixing performance, mixing parameters such as shear rate and mixing index were calculated. The configuration of discs and the gap between a pair of discs were designed. The more grooves on the disc, the better dispersive performance. There was an optimal gap size for dispersive mixing. It is also discussed that the effect of rotate speed on the mixing performance.
