Abstract

The physical ideas at the basis of the dispersion method are reviewed. General properties of the scattering matrix, anomalous thresholds and the Landau- Cutkosky rules, the Mandelstam representation, and charge and spin are considered. The applications of dispersion theory to physical processes are discussed.
