Abstract

A mathematical model is developed to replace any periodic elastic or viscoelastic composite material by a homogeneous medium with the object of using it to describe propagation of plane harmonic waves. The method employed here uses the stress polarization tensor principle applied to a truncated stress and displacement expansion. Spectral lines derived from this approach are exhibited for viscoelastic laminated composites with isotropic or transversely isotropic layers.
