Abstract

Within the framework of the closure approximation dispersion corrections to elastic electron scattering from 12C and 16O have been calculated using the Harmonic Oscillator Shell Model and keeping only the Coulomb contributions to the dispersive part of the second-Born amplitude. Center-of-mass effects and recoil have been taken into account. By means of an expansion scheme, the first-order corrections to the closure approximation have also been calculated and under certain conditions, it is believed that the corrected expansion is a valid one. It is found that the effective excitation energy, defined by the expansion, is approximately one oscillator spacing. The relation between this calculation and a previous one by deForest [26] is discussed.
