Abstract

AbstractThe dispersion and damping properties of plasmon polaritons in infinite superlattices are analyzed using a local theory with retardation. The band structure and the zone folding of the plasmon polaritons are discussed. It is shown that in a definite range of the thickness ratio of the single‐layers of the superlattice a degeneracy point of the two interface‐like plasmon‐polariton bands occurs. An analytic expression for the damping function is derived by means of a perturbative method. The different behaviour of the damping of plasmon polaritons in various infinite superlattice structures is discussed. The dispersion curves and the damping function are calculated and presented in graphical form.
