Abstract

Significant gender disparities are present in academic medicine. Women physicians are paid less than their male peers, take longer to advance in their careers, and are less likely to achieve high-ranking faculty or administrative positions.1-6 Potential factors contributing to such gender disparities include, but are not limited to, differences in time spent on childcare, variations in level of spousal support, fewer female mentors and role models in positions of leadership, implicit bias overt discrimination, and gender stereotype threat.
