Abstract

Adversity is disproportionately experienced by Black American (BA) individuals, compared to White American (WA) individuals. Further, disparities during childhood may contribute to racial differences in the structure of brain regions involved in regulating the emotional response to stress, such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex (PFC). Therefore, we investigated brain structural differences in BA and WA children to better understand the neuroanatomical consequences of racial disparities in adversity.
