Abstract
Reviewing this book is somewhat difficult because I am hard pressed to decide for what audience it was intended. The editor, John N. Walton, is an acknowledged authority in the area of muscle diseases. The 32 contributors are all well known and experts in this field. The major deficit is the sketchiness of the sections on Clinical Problems in Muscle Disease. The first edition was aimed primarily at the clinician, and the scope of the second edition was broadened to include other disorders of the neuromuscular apparatus, ostensibly to review all diseases of the lower motor neuron. This would appear to be an excellent menage of clinically related topics in one volume. Unfortunately the selection of material is poor, the weakest area is clinical problems. The chapter on peripheral nerve diseases is so thin on clinical description as to be little more than an outline; there is no meat. The
