Abstract
When the first edition of Disorders of the Respiratory Tract in Children made its appearance in 1967, its editor, Edwin L. Kendig, Jr., MD, Professor of Pediatrics, Medical College of Virginia, stated his objective as follows: To provide an answer to almost any question about respiratory diseases in children raised by the practitioner, resident, or intern in pediatrics, the chest physician, the roentgenologist, the medical student, or general practitioner. This lofty goal was achieved more adequately than had any other text previously available. The new edition strikes even closer to its mark. It will have expanded into two volumes. The previous edition ran to 834 pages. Volume I which is now attainable has 852 pages and its scope is limited to the pulmonary disorders of infants and children. Volume II will carry the title Otolaryngology . These are of course multi-authored volumes. Thirty-four authors have contributed 61 chapters to Volume I.
