Abstract

Connective tissue consists of cellular and fibrous constituents embedded in ground substance. The main cellular constituent of connective tissue is the fibroblast. The fibrous constituents comprise two principal groups: collagenous and elastic. Virtually any step in the formation of the various constituents of connective tissue may be affected by an inherited disorder, leading to abnormalities of different structures, including cartilage, bone, ligaments, tendons, fascia, and skin.
