Abstract

The relaxation effect due to dislocations has been observed unti l now only in cubic metals of the face-centered type (~) (Pb, A1, Cu, Ag, Au, Pd, Pt). The evidence of the same effect in magnesium (hexagonal e.p. lattice) cannot be considered satisfactory, as the only experimental curve known (~) was obtained for a polycrystalline specimen under the large intergrain stresses due to the anysotropy of thermal expansion and without considering the influence of anneal and pre-strain. i t may be observed that the existence of the effect in non-cubic lattices has a basic significance for the theory of dislocation motion (a).
