Abstract

An amplitude-dependent internal friction peak occurs at ≈ 475 K in well-annealed, pure α-Zr after slight deformation. Qualitatively, the results agree with a model for the motion of zig-zag dislocations in an array of obstacles. Comparison of theoretical and experimental results yields estimates of the effective activation enthalpy and activation volume of the process involved.
