Abstract

The disintegrations of La/sup 135/, Ba/sup 135m/, and Nd/sup 147/were studied with the help of magnetic spectrometers and scintillation counters. La/ sup 135/ decays almost entirely by electron capture. The half-life was found to be l9.8 plus or minus 0.2 hr. Electron capture to the ground state takes place in 95 to 97% of all disintegrations. Gamma-rays of energies 104, 218, 265, 285, 367, 48l. 588. 642, 882 keyw-ere found. There is a very weak positron spectrum. The internal-conversion coefficient of the line at 48l kev was measured. The value ALPHA /sub K/=0.0l30 indicates an M1 transition. The line at 862 key has ALPHA /sub K/ = 2.5 x 10/sup -3/. The disintegration scheme ss discussed. The internalconversion coefficient of the line at 265 kev from Ba/sup l35m/ was found to be ALPHA /sub K/= 3.82 plus or minus 0.2. The spectrum of Nd/sup 147/ was reinvestigated, confirming the scheme of Hans, Saraf, and Mandeville. The internal-conversion coeffi cient for the line at 92 kev was found to be l.52 plus or minus 0.05. (auth)
