Abstract

The relationship between disability and sexuality is a controversial issue, addressed only recently by those persons with disabilities themselves. The characterisation of their performance requires consideration of peculiarities relating to the different types of sensory, motor, cognitive, or physical functional limitations. There is interest in having a tool to advance this issue, given the high proportion of people with physical limitations in the country, and with the aim of generating interventions in this neglected area within the comprehensive rehabilitation. The aim of this study is to design a tool and assess its initial appearance, as well as content validation. Materials and methodsA tool was designed using articles found in the scientific literature, as well as others associated with the experience of the investigators. They were conceptually grouped into 4 dimensions of sexuality, specifically, biological, psychological, socio-cultural, and philosophical ethics. For the first design, 5 expert judges validated the appearance, and with their contributions, adjustments were made to the instrument settings, and the same experts re-assessed their relevance and significance. ResultsAll dimensions exceeded 80% in the content validity as regards appearance, relevance and significance. ConclusionsThe results of design and content validation of the instrument are such that it has adequate content validity, all the indices were high and similar in every dimension.
