Abstract

AbstractThis chapter gives an overview of the different skin diseases in pigs caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi as well as those related to nutrition and other non-infectious causes. The clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of these skin diseases are presented. Focus is given on swinepox, abscesses, actinomycosis, clostridial cellulitis, dermatophilosis, erysipelas, greasy pig disease, porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome, staphylococcal folliculitis, streptococcal pustular dermatitis, demodectic mange, fleas, ringworm, flies, lice, sarcoptic mange, ticks, biotin deficiency, iodine deficiency, parakeratosis, vitamin A deficiency, vitamin B deficiency, aural haematoma, bite wounds, burns, callus, frostbite, melanomas, juvenile papillomas, pemphigus, porcine ulcerative dermatitis syndrome, pressure sores, recurrent dermatosis, sunburn, urticaria, aplasia cutis, cutaneous asthenia, dermatosis vegetans, epitheliogenesis imperfecta, inherited congenital goitre, pityriasis rosea and thrombocytopaenic purpura.
