Abstract

One cannot tell a book by its cover or other gross physical characteristics. It is of interest, however, that this book is a large and heavy one, weighing five pounds, that it has over 1,000 pages of text and references, and it is being offered to the medical profession for $32.50. If the size of this book is an indication of the importance of kidney disease, we can be assured that these disorders have acquired adult status since the book weighs only three pounds less than Cecil's massive 11th edition. This volume is designed to be a critical and comprehensive text on clinical kidney disease. Its various chapters are written by well-known authors and competent workers. Many of the sections actually represent giant monographs. Because they are written by knowledgeable people, the various chapters do an excellent job of presenting, for the most part, a good review of basic physiology
