Abstract

The European Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine) and P. nigra var. maritima (Corsican pine) and the North American P. contorta (lodgepole pine) are the major species of pine grown in British forests. Many other introduced pines are grown in parks and gardens. P. sylvestris grows almost throughout Europe and into the western parts of Asia and as far south as Greece. Various forms of P. nigra are found from Austria into the Balkans and into the Mediterranean. P. cembra grows in the Alps and into the USSR. A number of other pines are found in Europe, especially in the Mediterranean area.KeywordsBark BeetleAlternate HostOrnamental TreeForestry CommissionSnow MouldThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
