Abstract

1. Ice loads can be investigated under laboratory conditions by replacing sea ice by structurally modeled ice with observance of its statistical similarity to natural ice. 2. Laboratory investigations of the effect of ice on a model of cylindrical supports permitted revealing a substantial dependence of the average ultimate stress at the ice-structure contact on the quantity d/h. This circumstance is quite important when choosing rational parameters for the design of the ice-resistance structures.
