Abstract

This chapter discusses the results of the case analysis. The previous chapter has examined the linguistic and semiotic configuration as well as the translation shifts in the interlingual translation between the verbal version of the Policy Addresses in Chinese and English in the first two decades of the Macao SAR Government, and the inter-semiotic translation between the verbal version and the infographics of Chui’s Policy Addresses. The analysis in the previous chapter provides the description of the existing semiotic phenomena of the selected Policy Addresses. With Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis as the macro-analytical framework, after the text analysis, this chapter goes further into the discursive practice dimension and social practice dimension. With the quality of the selected Policy Addresses as a specific communicative event, the chapter process the description attained in the previous chapter to interpret the textual phenomenon within the particular discursive context of the selected Policy Addresses with the specific production, distribution and consumption. In addition, this chapter further discuss the social and cultural factors influencing the discursive construction and the interplay between the discourse and socio-cultural context in the dimension of social practice.
