Abstract

Cosmetic changes and soft tissue results following skeletal surgery are of great importance and interest to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The evaluation of the patient's perception is a very difficult, but a significant question in the surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Because the primary purpose of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) is to move the masticatory system forward and thereby increase the posterior airway space, facial cosmetics is of great concern. The authors are to be commended for attempting to evaluate the nebulous problem of patient's perceptions and facial cosmetics.
