Discussion on the Application of Beidou Navigation System in Inland Waterway Transport

Abstract

Based on development of Satellite Navigation Systems worldwide, current application situation of Beidou and necessity of its promotion inland waterway transport have been analyzed. Relative measures and advice has been presented as well. Since Ninth Five-Year Plan, Chinese government has gradually introduced a number of policies to support development of aerospace industry. The 11th Five-Year Plan indicated clearly that in accordance with general requirements of civil aerospace industry by experimental application type to operational service type, vigorously promote industrialization of satellite communications, satellite navigation and satellite remote sensing application technology”. In this case, Beidou satellite navigation system, which was developed independently by China, is a global satellite navigation system with independent intellectual property rights. It is also an important spatial information infrastructure that has strategic significance to improve national industrial system of satellite navigation applications and promote formation of satellite navigation industry chain. However, development of science and technology is inextricably linked with national economic construction. Thus, order to allow Beidou satellite navigation system become a socio-economic and social service benefited high-tech product, it must be promoted from national policies and application level to be further popularized. 2. ANALYSIS OF CURRENT SITUATION OF INLAND WATERWAY China is process of industrial development, and heavy chemical industry particular is a period of a large transit growth. The problem of improving transport efficiency while saving cost of transportation and coordinating development between socio-economy and transport demand must be focused on and solved.
