Abstract

Fitzgerald created a semi autobiographical novel The Great in the Jazz Age in the United States, in which he depicted the innocent and persistent main character Gatsby, his good friend Nick, and his beloved woman Daisy. Under the fancyJazz Age, the degenerate life and the distorted dark humanity of the upper class people are fully exposed, while Gatsby is like a dramatized character. He is born in a poor family, and tries to enter the upper class after accumulating a certain wealth and he is desperate to get recognition. However, all of his effort ends with a tragic fate. This paper is going to reveal the tragedy of Jazz Age from the analysis of the three main characters and Gatsby’s personal destruction.
