Abstract

This short communication presents a discussion of “Solving non-convex economic dispatch problem with valve point effects using modified group search optimizer method” by Kazem Zare et al. “Electric Power Systems Research” 84 (2012) 83–89. The discussed paper presented economic dispatch problem by experimenting with three example systems considering 3, 13 and 40-unit test systems considering nonconvex cost function with valve point loading effects. However, in the reported results for the 13-unit test system with two different load demands, the total costs quoted were different for the given generation schedule. In this communication, clarification regarding cost calculations is presented.
