Abstract

This article is a commentary on the cases of Paul and Danielle treated by Drs. Yvette Gonzalez and Robin Donath (this issue), who provide detailed illustrations of their treatment conceptualizations and the therapeutic process. In this commentary, using the cases of Paul and Danielle, this author discusses the feelings of betrayal that can result in loyalty conflicts where children feel the need to choose one relationship over another. In addition, the author raises the issue of parents' struggle with loyalty and betrayal with their child's affection toward the therapist or with each other in the case of divorce or rancor between parents.
