Abstract

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by D.V. Jauregui et al., published in this journal (Volume 8, Number 4, July/August 2003), is presented. The authors are commended for their work on the measurement of vertical deflection of bridges using digital close-range terrestrial photogrammetry. The discussers points out that, due to temperature differences, the laser or photographic optical beam in optical measuring systems is affected by any variation of the index of refraction of the air. The authors should examine the order of magnitude of the possible error due to variations of the index of refraction of the air. Other measurement systems are suggested.
