Abstract

As presented by Shildrick, questions are raised with regard to Lacan's theory elucidating the underpinnings for negative attitudes concerning sexual activity with and by disabled persons. Discussed, too, are other assumptions stemming from psychoanalytic theory that seem to be pertinent to sexuality and the disabled. For example, does the concept of polymorphousness in relation to particular sexual behavior necessarily imply perversity? Still other assumptions have stimulated me to make additions or tentative amendments to the dialog. Along the way, suggestions for further research are advanced.
