Abstract

A discussion of the aforementioned article, published in this journal (Volume 130, No. 12, December 2004) is presented. There is concern by the discussers that soil liquefaction was not validated before establishing involvement in ground deformations. The discussers identify inertial slope instability and fault activity that might have contributed to the observed deformations in the original paper. Also, the paper addresses the concern that there may not be an appropriate basis to test and comment on the predictive capabilities of the methodologies presented in the article.
